The 79th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is right around the corner! It’s happening August 2-11, 2019 in Sturgis, South Dakota and we want to help you make the most of your trip! Aside from hanging out with other riders, you’ll have the chance to show off your bike, listen to live music, sightsee, and more! Every year brings different activities but one thing is for sure, if you’re a motorcycle enthusiast, Sturgis is the place to be! We’ve put together a short list of events that we recommend if you’re making your way to Sturgis this year.
Legendary Sturgis 5K
Every year riders trade in their bikes for a pair of running shoes to participate in the Legendary Sturgis 5K. The event starts at the Fort Meade Softball Fields and ends at Woodland Shelter in the city park. For a $40 registration fee, you can run, walk, or jog and support a local charity while you do it. Check in begins at 7am on Sunday, August 4, 2019. After you cross the finish line, you’ll be treated to what’s described as “the best breakfast in town.”
Ride with a Local
Community is something that’s extremely important during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The rally is about more than just showing off your motorcycle, it’s also about meeting new people and being surrounded by a community that enjoys the same things you do. Whether it’s your first year or your tenth year, you’ll be welcomed with open arms and can even take a tour with someone who knows their way around. The Ride with a Local event will have you buddy up with a local rider that will show you some of the sights that the Black Hills of South Dakota have to offer. The ride takes about three hours and ends with a catered lunch once you return to Sturgis.
Mount Rushmore
Even though Mount Rushmore is currently under construction, it is still open to the public to visit, take photos, and explore the area. There are great views of the monument that are motorcycle friendly so you can either ride by or stop to take in the sights, whichever you prefer. At the monument you can enjoy an audio tour, gift shop, and the famous Carver’s Cafe and Ice Cream Shop. A trip to South Dakota isn’t complete without a visit to Mount Rushmore!
Live Music
Along with great food and sightseeing, there are also several concerts for everyone to enjoy. There are over 20 bands performing on the main stage to celebrate the rally this year. Some of the artists you can catch at the rally this year include Keith Urban, Godsmack, Toby Keith, Snoop Dogg, Distrubed, Cheaptrick, and others. No matter what type of music you enjoy, there will definitely be a concert that gets you excited!
